RABA Salute to Veterans

Help Connect Veterans to Transportation in Shasta County

There are over 15,000 veterans in Shasta County.

Your donation will directly benefit the Shasta County Veterans Service Office (VSO) and their partner programs, providing free bus passes to our veterans in need of affordable transportation.

The Shasta County Veterans Service Office serves over 8,500 active clients annually, some of which are destitute and need assistance with transportation to get to work, medical appointments, school, and many other much needed services.

The VSO distributes these RABA $10 value cards each month from our main front office receptionist desk and shares the cards with other local veteran organizations. The cards can be used on RABA bus and paratransit services, which serve Redding, Shasta Lake City, and Anderson. The VSO performs a professional and expedient quality check on the status of each person to ensure the pass is given to a veteran in need.

There is a continual and rising need to help our homeless, elderly, and at-risk veteran population. These donated cards give many of our veterans the basic assistance of transportation, which is essential for them. By supporting RABA’s Salute to Veterans program, we will be able to help more veterans throughout the year.
— J. C. "Mac" McCraw Master Sergeant, U.S. Air Force (Retired), Former Shasta County Veterans Service Officer

As a partner in this community effort, RABA will provide a 50 percent match.

For example:

For every $100 donated,
$150 in bus passes will be provided to our veterans.

About the Shasta County Veterans Service Office

The Shasta County VSO is the first stop for assisting veterans across Shasta County. We offer a wide array of services of comprehensive benefits counseling on claims preparation and submission, initiate and develop appeals when appropriate, and networking and advocacy with federal, state, and local agencies.

We have accredited counselors with information and provide service for VA health care information, Post 9-11 GI Bill, and Cal Vet home loans/VA home loans. Our counselors work extremely hard with assistance offered in filing for compensation (service-related injury or disease), re-open compensation claim for increase or reevaluation, and non-service connected pension (war era veterans only).

We assist in survivor benefits, burial benefits, ordering and certification of DD-214, vocational rehabilitation (serviced connected), College Fee Waiver (service connected), clothing allowance, special housing grant or auto grant (service connected), certification of DMV driver’s license application forms, request for military records and decorations, discharge upgrade and correction of military records, disability life insurance and waiver of premiums, payment of proceeds of VA life insurance, and assist veterans and their survivors for placement in long-term care facility (Aid and Attendance).

Our department services over 9,000 active clients annually, some of which are destitute and need assistance with transportation to get to work, medical appointments, school, and many other much needed services.
